The Oyo State government has demolished scores of shops and kiosks in the Ojoo market located in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the ongoing demolition exercise on Thursday, May 9, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, mentioned that the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had personally addressed the traders.
He assured them that the government would provide an alternative location, emphasizing that the current place was hazardous and the new one was nearby, just in front of the Barracks.
DAILY INSIDER learnt that the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development had previously served the traders with a quit notice, but they refused to vacate the market.
Muhdeen Ganiyu, the Chairman of the market known as Elewedu, stated that the notice given was too short.
However, he mentioned that the executive members of all affected markets would convene a meeting following the demolition.

Meanwhile, DAILY INSIDER reported earlier that Governor Seyi Makinde’s government in Oyo state have commenced the demolition of houses in Ibadan, the state capital.
The demolition began in the Fashade community along Circular Road on Tuesday, March 12, with plans to affect at least 12 villages in the Ona-Ara local government area.
According to Abdulfatal Amubikan, a community leader in one of the affected areas, around 500 houses have already been demolished.
Williams Akinfunmilayo, the state commissioner for land, housing, and urban development, confirmed during a phone call that the demolition will target structures built close to Circular Road.
