Governor Seyi Makinde’s Government says it has commenced the distribution of farm inputs and agricultural assets to farmers in six local government areas of Oyo State.
This distribution, flagged off as part of the ongoing Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) programme by the state government, aims to enhance the quality and quantity of farm produce to boost food security in the state.
Recall that the state government had previously intervened in the food security sub-sector with three phases, providing free maize to poultry farmers and feeds to fish farmers.
DAILY INSIDER gathered that the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who also chairs the Food Security division under SAfER, supervised the distribution in the Oke Ogun axis.
The areas covered include ATISBO, Saki West, Oorelope, Kajola, Iwajowa, and Itesiwaju local government areas.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan, the initiative is part of the state government’s plan to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal.
Beneficiaries of the programme will receive herbicides, knapsack sprayer tanks, 16kg hybrid maize seedlings, insecticides, and 20 bundles of improved cassava stems.
Speaking through the Director of Regulation and Enforcement, Olusegun Ezekiel, the commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural development in the state.
