The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed that approximately 80% of eligible voters were intentionally prevented from voting in the recent local government elections across Oyo State.
Wale Sadare, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, made this assertion in response to the election results announced on Sunday, April 28, by Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), the Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.
Recall that On Saturday, April 27, 2024, the Publicity Secretary also called for the cancellation of the local government election, stating that it did not meet the minimum global standards.
DAILY INSIDER reports that the elections took place in all 33 local government areas of the state on Saturday, April 27.
Sadare criticised the election results, which showed that the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the chairmanship seats in all 33 council areas.
He described the election as a complete sham, stating that the APC had anticipated a fair electoral process.
Sadare said,” “About 80 per cent of the eligible voters were deliberately disenfranchised and they came up with fictitious figures as votes recorded. The leadership of our great party will meet very soon and we will make public our decision soon.”
OYSIEC Ill-Prepared for Polls – Oyo Senator Alleges
Meanwhile, DAILY INSIDER reported earlier that Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South, expressed his disappointment at the alleged absence of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) officers in Ward 3, Ibadan North LGA.
He raised concerns about similar issues in Okeho, Ibadan NorthWest, Ibadan SouthEast, and other local government areas in the state.
According to the Senator, this indicates that the electoral commission is either ill-prepared or engaged in some form of misconduct.
