Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South, has expressed his disappointment at the alleged absence of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) officers in Ward 3, Ibadan North LGA.
He raised concerns about similar issues in Okeho, Ibadan NorthWest, Ibadan SouthEast, and other local government areas in the state.
According to the Senator, this indicates that the electoral commission is either ill-prepared or engaged in some form of misconduct.
Alli said, “This shows OYSIEC is ill-prepared or up to some game.”
OYSIEC’s Mandate Under Nigerian Law
It’s important to note that the OYSIEC was established by the State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 1999, as provided for in Section 197 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
Under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the State Independent Electoral Commission Law, the Commission has the authority to conduct, organize, and supervise all elections to Local Government Councils in the State in accordance with the provisions of the law, regulations, rules, or manuals issued by the Electoral Commission.
DAILY INSIDER reports that the election is expected to take place across the 33 Local Government Areas in Oyo State on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
