Several All Progressives Congress (APC) party members decided not to participate in the current local government election at the IDGS in Iseyin, Oyo State.
DAILY INSIDER gathered that the APC members expressed frustration, claiming that the opposing party was obstructing their right to vote.
Concerned about potential confrontations, the members noted that they feared being targeted if they attempted to cast their votes, hence opting to abstain from voting altogether.
Recall that Ahead of Saturday’s local government election, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has announced that 15,000 security personnel will be deployed.
This was disclosed by the OYSIEC Chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
He assured that the commission has collaborated closely with security agencies in the state to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
Olagunju explained that the security personnel include officers from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA), among others.
Hoodlums Attack Electoral Officials, Snatch Ballot Papers
Meanwhile, DAILY INSIDER reported earlier that A group of thugs have attacked officials of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) and carted away ballot papers earmarked for the upcoming local government elections.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 26, when the hoodlums reportedly stole the ballot papers meant for the Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Isiaka Olagunju, the Chairman of OYSIEC, confirmed the attack, acknowledging that there was indeed an assault on their officials at their office in Okeho the previous night.
The commission’s chairman, however, clarified that no ballot papers were snatched from its office.
