The local government election in some communities in Oyo state has been marred by apathy and alleged irregularities, DAILY INSIDER exclusively reports.
This is as a result of election officers’ failure to provide the result sheets in some polling units amid allegations of gross negligence.
DAILY INSIDER correspondents who visited some polling units in the Okeho community, Kajola local government area, noted that voters refused to exercise their rights after the electoral officers failed to provide the sensitive materials.
The election was scheduled to start at 9am across all the 33 local government areas in the state on Saturday, April 27.
However, after some sensitive materials were distributed, the electorate noticed that there were no result sheets.
This created confusion as voters insisted that the sheets be provided or the election process be cancelled for transparency’s sake.
Electorate shun polling units
A source who spoke to our correspondent said many voters left their polling units because they did not have trust in the process.
“The election was about to start by 9:00 am, and all the sensitive materials were distributed without the election result sheet.
The OYSIEC staff was restrained by the electorate that the election could not be held without providing election-sensitive materials which included the election report sheet,” he said.
Polls lack transparency – Voters
Meanwhile, voters have expressed displeasure over handling the election process, lamenting that it lacked credibility.
Those who spoke with this publication noted that the process was poorly handled and designed to disenfranchise some voters of the other parties.
In some polling units, representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not found on the ground of voting, raising concern over the credibility of the process.
