Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged candidates in the ongoing local government elections in the state to accept the outcome of the election once the results are announced.
This is as Makinde also expressed his trust in the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) for overseeing what he believes to be one of the most credible local government council elections.
Recall that Makinde of Oyo State has declared Friday, April 26, as a half-working day for all public and civil servants in the state.
According to a statement released on Thursday, April 25, by Sulaimon Olarenwaju, the governor’s chief press secretary, it was declared to provide ample time for preparations for the local government elections in the state.
Makinde shared his satisfaction with the election process after casting his vote at Ward 11 Unit 1 Abayomi Iwo Road, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, deeming it peaceful and comparable to INEC’s standards.
He urged anyone with information about irregularities to report them to the appropriate authorities for resolution.
Makinde reflected on his nearly five years in office, highlighting that prior to his tenure, the state had been under caretaker administrations, depriving the people of a genuine voice in their governance.
He said, “Our people should accept the outcome of the elections and if you see anything on towards as far as this exercise is concerned , pls bring it up to the authorities and they’ll deal with it.”
OYSIEC Ill-Prepared for Polls – Oyo Senator Alleges
Meanwhile, DAILY INSIDER reported earlier that Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South, has expressed his disappointment at the alleged absence of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) officers in Ward 3, Ibadan North LGA.
He raised concerns about similar issues in Okeho, Ibadan NorthWest, Ibadan SouthEast, and other local government areas in the state.
According to the Senator, this indicates that the electoral commission is either ill-prepared or engaged in some form of misconduct.
